Day 47 - Removal Notice

I had a visitor today.  The place called the Visits is comprised of two sections.  One section is a big room for meeting visitors and the other is a place where there are a number of interview rooms.  When I had a chat with my visitor, I saw more than ten Sri Lankan people waiting to go into the interview rooms.  I saw a few faces of my friends.  I had a horrible feeling.  I was right.  They were served with a removal notice.  They are quiet and nice people and they are the most friendly in this centre.  I am sure anyone who meets them will like them.  Can't you keep them in this country?

My next door neighbour (the other side from the one who had a big fight at the airport and came back) got a removal notice a few days ago.  She told me yesterday that she would leave today.  Guess what.  She is still in my next room.  Her Mum arranged a lawyer and got an injunction.  Really, the Immigration and the ABF should think more carefully before booking a flight and a hotel for so many people (four or five escorts and a doctor?) only to waste.

Today, one mystery was resolved.  The mystery was this.  There is a community group who visits Villawood on every Thursday.  When I arrived here 46 days ago, one of my friends asked the group to include me in the list of the detainees they want to meet.  So my name was included in their application for visits.  I waited for my name to be called to go to the Visits on that day but I was never called.  My friends made sure that I was included in the subsequent week but still I was not called.  So I gave up.  I did not know what happened until today.

This afternoon, I found it.  My friend visited me today.  Since I asked her to include two other detainees with me in her application for a visit, she did.  When she arrived, she told the guard my name and one other detainee's name but could not tell the last detainee's name as she had forgotten.  Then the guard only called me and one other detainee, but not the third one!   The guard could have checked with her application but didn't.  So I think the Thursday people included my name in their application but did not tell the guard to call me.  (sigh)

Now I have to prepare for two potential disasters after this case.  I really don't think I will lose this case and even if I lose, from the judge who pronounced the judgment, I will be able to get an injunction on the spot pending the filing of an appeal. But just in case the judge does not agree to the injunction for some unthinkable reasons, I will prepare for a notice of appeal.  I will also prepare for another Federal Court originating process just in case the Immigration is waiting for the judgment of this case and (after it lost the case) refuses my visa application again right in front of the courtroom.  The former is most unlikely but the latter,,,  well,,,.  I suspect that the Immigration will wait for the judgment and then will start thinking about what to do.  But heaven knows....
